The Fitness Challenge

So a little over a month ago, Rob and I started on our Fitness Challenge. The Fitness Challenge is an 8 week fitness game designed for the “wannabe exerciser.” You know who you are…. The theory behind the game is that you pick a partner, make a wager, and play for 8 weeks. The game is designed for two players of any age or fitness ability to compete against each other. The Fitness Challenge uses rewards in the form of star points along with coupons as prizes to motivate players to exercise consistently and lose weight for eight weeks. The player to get 40 points wins! The wager coupons are divided into categories; Big Stakes, Around the house, V.I.P, Parenthood, Pets, Just for Kids, and “create your own”. My personal favorite is the V.I.P category where you have such wagers as; control of the remote, I’m not cooking, and I’m sleeping in. Seems like a good reward to me.

We started off the game strong. We would ride our bikes around the lake every night. Rob and I work opposite shifts so it was still possible to play the game together; we just had to take each other’s word for it that they completed that day’s fitness challenge. Then we found out we’re expecting baby # 2 and the nausea started. The workouts kind of went to the way side. Perhaps when the “all day & all night” morning sickness subsides we can pick up where we left off.

Overall, I believe the game is fun and stimulating. Rob and I are competitive people so challenging each other is fun and keeps the game interesting. The hardest part for me has always been finding time or getting bored with the routine. Let’s face it, I sleep 4-5 hours a day and I can’t afford to lose 30 minutes of sleep in lieu of exercise. However, I have to make fitness and my health a top priority so that I can be around for my children for a very long time. If you already have an established workout routine, Fitness Challenge is easy to incorporate into your routine and help liven things up.
