Have you tried PurpleTrail.com yet? PurpleTrail.com is an online site that offers free invitations, e-cards,  and announcements. PurpleTrail.com offers a huge collection of "e-stationary" that can be personalized and designed to fit your specific need or event. PurpleTrail.com has both a "free" service and a paid membership service depending on your social/party needs. So why use PurpleTrail.com over other sites? Well here's a couple of reasons; larger collection of designs that can be personalized, you can email your cards/invites via SMS or Facebook, address book import capability, track your RSVP list, manage event details, communicate with event guests through their messaging board,  and no pop-up ads

PurpleTrail.com free services include access to  it's collection of e-cards/announcements/invitations, send up to 75 emails per event, and up to 250 e-invitations per month with a 2 day priority service. Their paid membership varies from a basic plan to a premium plan based on your individual need. The paid services (depending on the plan) include print-at-home designs, a payment collection module, and the ability to duplicate the event, have increased email invite per event/month than the free plan, animated graphics, chat with guests and event management.

With the holidays right around the corner, PurpleTrail.com would be a great way to send out holiday cards, social event invitations for those company/family parties, or birth announcements in my case. PupleTrail.com also offers party and event ideas, themes, and game ideas. I recently hosted a bridal shower and was able to find decoration and game ideas for a western theme, which was very helpful since I've never hosted a shower or having any idea about country-western things.
